Pole Tent VS Pop-Up Tent (Canopy)

When deciding on a pole tent vs a pop up tent, here are some things to consider.

Both have a place because they serve different needs:

Pole Tent (Canopy) –  Must be set up by a professional

Best for:

• Large Weddings
• Large graduation parties
• Corporate events
• Festivals
• Large backyard celebrations

Pros

• Longer Set Up Times, must be set up by a professional
• Elegant, dramatic appearance.
• Covers large groups.
• Great for tables, dance floors, and catering, dinner parties.

Cons

• Requires grass or another surface that can be staked with no underground utilities or irrigation/sprinkler system.
• Center poles and guy lines limit layout.
• Must have large area away from buildings and trees
• Longer setup and takedown time (multi person job).

Pop-Up Tent (Canopy)

Best for:

• Backyard parties
• Food and beverage stations
• Gift tables
• Check-in areas
• Vendor booths
• Farmers markets
• Sports events
• Smaller Weddings

Pros

• Fast setup (depending on size).
• Portable and easy to transport.
• Can be used on grass, concrete, asphalt, or patios with appropriate weights.

Cons

• Usually a smaller coverage.
• Less formal appearance than a pole tent.
• Even though they are Commercial Grade they are not designed to withstand severe weather.
• Weights for tents must be used if not stacked in ground

Measure Your Space

Before booking, measure the available area where the tent will be installed.

Remember to account for:

• Trees and low branches
• Fences
• Utility lines
• Landscaping
• Pools
• Slopes
• Walkways
• Stakes or anchoring requirements

A tent will require several extra feet around its perimeter for proper setup.

A Quick Guide

For most backyard parties with tables and chairs: This is an estimate!

• 12 Guest or less 10’x10’
• 25 guests: 20′ × 20′ or two 10’ X10’
• 50 guests: 20′ × 40′ or four 10’X 10’
• 100 guests: 30′ × 50′
• 150 guests: 40′ × 60′

These estimates assume standard banquet seating without unusually large entertainment or service areas.

The amount of space each guest needs depends on how they’ll use the tent.

Many of our guest like to have a combination of open and tent covered areas, our 10’X10’ popup tents are perfect for this and allows room for trees, slopes or other items that would be in the way with large tents.

10′ x 10′ Canopy Tent Capacity Guide

10′ x 10′ pop-up canopy tents are a great option for smaller gatherings, food and beverage stations, vendor areas, shade coverage, and casual outdoor events. Multiple 10′ x 10′ tents can also be combined to create a larger covered area.

1 – 10′ x 10′ Tent

• Coverage: 100 square feet
• Standing guests: 10–15 people
• Seated guests: Up to 8–10 people
• Great for: Beverage stations, food tables, gift tables, registration areas, vendor booths, or small seating areas

2 – 10′ x 10′ Tents

• Coverage: 200 square feet
• Standing guests: 20–30 people
• Seated guests: Approximately 16–20 people
• Great for: Small backyard gatherings, food and seating areas, or creating separate dining and serving spaces

3 – 10′ x 10′ Tents

• Coverage: 300 square feet
• Standing guests: 30–45 people
• Seated guests: Approximately 24–30 people

• Coverage: 400 square feet
• Standing guests: 40–60 people
• Seated guests: Approximately 32–40 people

• Coverage: 500–600 square feet
• Standing guests: 50–90 people

• Great for: Larger celebrations with multiple areas for dining, serving, entertainment, or activities

Planning Tips

When determining how many tents you need, consider what will be placed underneath the tent, including:

Additional space may be needed depending on your event setup and layout.

Important Note

Capacity recommendations are general guidelines. The best tent configuration depends on your guest count, event type, available space, and the items you plan to place under the tent.
